Wrangler VIP party!!

30.8.11
Quantcast
SO! Yesterday we made our way down to Notting Hill for the Wrangler Event – VIP only (yes, we are now very important people, almost!) The streets were trashed from the festival during the day, police absolutely everywhere and literally every person we saw was smashed! Scary but pretty funny. When we finally got to Bumpkin, where the party was held, we got our names checked off the list for entry, and went on in! We were given a wristband and some Wrangler cash for free drinks, but before we joined the epic queue for the bar, we checked out all 4 floors of the party! Each one was jam-packed, we could barely get in to the top two! The whole party as American themed of course, so flags flying high, denim shorts, and stripes and stars. There was even a free BBQ in the middle of it all. We decided to stay on the bottom floor since we weren’t hammered enough to rave it up. While we were casually drinking our beers, Diana Vickers brushed past us looking a bit fizzled but gorgeous as ever and supporting her boyfriend George Craig who was DJing, we saw Duncan James from Blue at the bar with his entourage, and stood next to Sheridan Smith from Two Pints of Lager/Gavin & Stacey/etc with Michael Socha (Harvey from This is England). Jaime Winstone was partying hard too. SURREAL! Then just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, Maverick Sabre began his acoustic set upstairs!! We left feeling very content with being VIPs for the night, can’t wait for the next one!!!

Apologies for the awful photos, I only had my faithful blackberry for the night so couldn’t get any good’ns! Here are a few I found elsewhere of some people you might recognise though!

Bodycon Beauties @ Lipsy!

25.8.11
Last year Lipsy decided to open a store in Nottingham, where I go to uni. Most people would be thrilled at this, all the fabulous dresses, gorgeous accessories etc, but it is the hardest thing having to walk past that window display without going in, and when you have ventured inside, even harder to browse the goods and try them on when you know full well you can't afford to fork out £70 let alone £10! You leave feeling lustful then go to find something similar in the New Look Sale for a third the price. However, I still put myself through having a little peek at the online collections from time to time and yesterday I discovered that the prices are not all that bad! (AKA I may justify buying one).

I'm a big fan of bodycon as it gives me the shape I never had, so I chose 8 of my favourites to show you here...

Images from Lipsy Online

All of these bodycon beauties are below £55, the turquoise one on the bottom left is only £42! So I’m considering saving a bit of cash for one of these.

Which one should I go for?

Grunge & Glitter – Nail art…

22.8.11
Yet another post on the wonders of decorative nails..it seems we change our varnish more than our knickers, well we’re not that gross, but yes today I decided to trade in my rather extravagant Chanel nails for something equally decadent with a little more edge. As I was browsing boohoo’s latest collections (I finally decided to get some taupe chelsea boots, wet look aztec design black leggins, and a beige contrast waist mini skirt – will show you when they arrive!) I decided to base my new nail look on the theme “Luxe Grunge” – down and dirty with a splash of glamour!
Here’s how I did it….

Step one:

Apply a base coat of your choice – mine was No7 Stay Perfect in Pink a Dink.

Step two:

Apply Barry M Nail Effects in Black or whichever you fancy directly over the top of the base coat one it has dried. Don’t freak out if each nail looks different, it’s all part of the look!

Step three:

Once the Nail Effects has worked its magic, paint the tips of the nails with a glittery nail polish – I used Gosh Nail Lacquer in Golden Brown.

ET VOILA! You have a set of “Luxe Gunge”-esque talons to flash about, simple as that!
Let me know what you think, or if you have any ideas of what we can do next as we’re running out!!

Big Love,

A pop to the shop..

21.8.11
So, I’ve been in London for most of this week but have resisted shopping at all costs (little pun there). I thought I’d finally accepted that I have to no money in the bank and won’t do until I get paid/the start of term, but then I went into Primark for some tights and it all went down hill. Floor length skirts, block print tops, sheer blouses, some gorgeous bright pink block heels, etc etc…I made it out of there with no tights, some feather earrings, a head tie, and the cutest little square bag. Back home feeling a little guilty now but what can a girl do.

The earrings were £2.50 and are lovely to wear, the head tie was only £1.50 and can be worn in a few ways, plus its great for keeping your hair out of the way (I already have a lace one from Primark), and the bag was £12, its too cute but not amazingly practical, then again fashion rarely is.

True, you can get some sweet bargains in Primark, but the prices really have risen in the last few years. If the quality has also risen, then I probably wouldn’t mind spending a bit extra but from experience I’m doubtful that’s the case. Either way I’m happy with my buys today.

Pull & Bear got bags of style...

19.8.11
This week, after we hit up the boohoo.com press day, we thought we might as well take a casual stroll down Oxford Street, as ya do. Checked out the new Forever 21 store, which is uhhh-mazing of course, and a few other places. I’d heard about Pull & Bear but never been in the actual store before or really seen their stuff, so I was pleasantly surprised to see some lovely items around the shop! The style is like H&M mixed with Cult, at a very good price, pretty damn sweet!
I had a peek on the store online and fell in love with some of the bags they sell more than anything else, especially as they’re all under a teeny £22.99, absolute bargains! I tried to pick out a few of my favourites, but as you can see I had to cram them on the page…

If I had to pick one (since that’s all I can afford), think it would have to be the red one (bottom right), but I love the sand coloured one next to that, and the tapestry one too! Ah dear…
Which one would you choose?

Boohoo AW11 Press Day!

18.8.11
Yesterday we were lucky enough to attend the boohoo.com Autumn/Winter 2011 Press Day in London, where they show off all the latest collections from the website that will grace us for the next few months. When we got there, we were given bucks fizz (wahoo!) and sandwiches, tea, coffee, etc and a goody bag with a boohoo.com t-shirt, a nail file (very handy), some Teapigs tea bags, Cadburys hot chocolate, and a voucher for boohoo.com! We were shown each of the 6 new collections; Vintage Emporium, Luxe Grunge, Cut Work, 70's Country Girl, 60's Pop, and the Working Wardrobe - all very gorgeous, of course, and took a few snapshots of our favourite things...

Pretty much in love with the red block heels up there, and the skater dresses we posted about before actually come in more colours (oops) - the berry and yellow ones are beauties! There were some fantastic bags, very vintage styley, and the jewellery is sweet, especially that gold necklace.

Check it all out HERE! So, no idea what to buy with our vouchers but those red heels are definitely up there as are the Skater dresses. Lots of berry colours, lots of glitz and glam, fur and feathers, YAY!
We met some lovely people, and had many lovely snacks - overall, a great event!
Any idea what we should use our vouchers on? HELP US!

Yay for Yayer!

17.8.11
Recently, whilst having the usual browse of online fashion distributers, we came across yayer.co.uk and after a intense browse we discovered so many beauties. The style of many items reminded us of our beloved Urban Outfitters.
We made a selection of some gorgeous long skirts and some cute little dresses:

I am a massive fan of the fringed Aztec skirt and the blue and black striped skirt as well as the black wedges. (Pretty much everything...!)
Yayer also deliver worldwide which means these beauties are within reach for everyone!!
What is your favourite item?

Aztec Nails...

Any spare moment always seems to lead to nail experiments for us January Sublime girls and this is what my free time led to today....

The base coat is a Misguided colour in "Misstique" and the zig-zag's are done in Collection 2000's Hot Look paint, number 33 - "Button Moon".
I did this style with a cocktail stick, just make sure you let the base coat dry completely before applying the decoration or the colours may blend!
We think this style works best when you use contrasting colours or light and dark colours, what do you think?

Orange Obsessed

It is a proven fact that orange makes you happier so no wonder the world of fashion has adopted the colour in such abundance!
We've become so much happier already, just scouting the web for all the orange goods on offer... here are a few of the beautiful items we found:

The colour works well in Spring, Summer and Autumn as well so the items wont become outdated quickly.  The variety of items is so massive so there is definitely something for everyone!
Whether you choose to have the orange as the focal point or as a subtle hint to your outfit, you will be guaranteed success with these vibrant fashion must haves!
Are you as orange obsessed as we are?!

Boohoo Ballerina Chic...

15.8.11
When it comes to spending dolla, we’re definitely not ones to splash out on a one-hit wonder. The worst thing is having a wardrobe packed with unique pieces that you just know you’ll never wear again (unless you can afford it, in which case its awesome). So when we go shopping our aim is usually to spend as little money on something that can be worn time and time again. This Belted Skater Dress from boohoo.com appears to be the perfect candidate – it comes in 5 fantastic colours – Black, Ivory, Mocha, Rust, and Taupe - suitable for all you bold embracers, as well as those of us who enjoy a more subtle or neutral tone. The simple style makes it wonderfully versatile, the way you choose to wear it is entirely in your hands! Pair it with pumps and a cardi for casual chic, or heels and clutch when hitting the town. And the best part is, they’re only £15!

We can’t choose between the different colours, though we do like the taupe one there on the left.

Liking the style? Which would you choose?

Chanel nails - A touch of class...

Another week, another change in nail art, and this time I wanted to do something I saw on Tumblr that instantly caught my attention – Chanel! After looking through many photos of various styles, I decided to go for something a little different, using deep purple (No.7 – Stay Perfect in Vivid Violet) and a gold nail art pen (Nails supreme). A did two quick coats of the purple, left to dry for a whole CSI episode, then sketched the Chanel logo on top with the gold nail pen, which took ages due to shaky hands and a bit of OCD on my part. But I’m glad to say it was a happy ending and I now have a beautiful set of Chanel-esque nails.

The colours here look slightly different as the purple is darker in reality and the gold isn’t this yellow but this was the best photo I could get!

MNG AW11 FYI..

14.8.11
Yes, it's that time of the year when we start to seriously consider our A/W wardrobe, especially when you're living in a country where summertime means slightly less rain than winter, and a couple more cheery degrees than usual. As ever, we've been scouring the magazines for news on all the latest collections, and one that caught our eye was Mango's AW11. With bold colours, metallics, spots, stripes, feathers, tweed, leopard print, and lace, there's quite literally something for everyone!

We love the glamour of it all, and can't wait to get our hands on one of those nice faux fur jackets to keep us cosy!

Check out the Kate Moss for Mango video at here!

What do you think? Ready to embrace A/W wardrobe, or clinging on to your summer styling?

FCUK, that's a good sale!

13.8.11
The AW11 collection for FCUK may be looking fabulouso, but for the penniless among us, it doesn't quite seem justifiable to loosen those purse strings. When I think French Connection, I think classy, chic, versatile, and expensive, so I was actually pleasantly surprised when I took a peek at the sale items online today. They seem to hit several major trends featuring in Vogue this month as well as offering way more colour than the new collections.

There's a little bit of 40s/50s glamour, some aztec styling, block heels, raspberry shades, and even a snakeskin belt! Nearly everything on this page has potential to be in my wardrobe, though I can't even truly afford the sale items, let alone full price.

See anything you like?

Day & Night...

12.8.11
So, yesterday was a sad, sad day for us as one of our best friends is leaving for America to study there. We had a big night out to celebrate/morn the occasion and all decided to dress up quite fancy. I wore this black sequin-embellished dress - Miss Selfridge - £3 on Ebay, and my new topshop pale pink wedges, which broke half way through the night! Luckily my friend had a spare pair of flats in her bag but still pretty annoyed.

This morning we were both feeling a bit rough despite being very sensible and drinking water before bed as well as a healthy helping of cheesy chips! I decided to make the most of the day and go for lunch somewhere. My outfit came out looking quite preppy, kinda like a costume from Grease as my sister put it - the skirt was £2.50 from a charity shop, the shirt was £9.99 - H&M, the cardi was £18 - Topshop, the belt was £2 - Calvin Klein from a charity shop, and the necklace was a birthday present.
Really hope the weather gets better soon, not sure if we can stand this rain any longer! Come back summer!

Louboutin Vs YSL...

11.8.11
Yesterday's breaking news in the world of designer dilemmas was the rejection of Christian Louboutin's request for an injunction against the selling of red-soled shoes by YSL. These red soles are, of course, the trade-mark Louboutin look, but can you copyright a colour?

While thinking over this I went a bit off track and decided to put together a little collection of some of the latest heels from each side of the story to compare the styles of both Louboutin and YSL foot wear. So, Let the heel-off begin!!

In my opinion, Louboutins have a sharper and bolder look, while YSLs are more chic and subtle. They all look pretty damn gorgeous to me, and I'm not entirely sure I'd know which brand to pick if I ever found myself in a situation where I had this much spare cash to splash on heels alone (dream!).

So, unless you're a wealthy lady, or a skillful ebayer, who can afford more than one pair of these beauties, would you go for Louboutin or YSL? Any pair in particular? And what do you think about the law suit against YSL selling red-soled shoes?

Let us know your thoughts!

Sew it, don't throw it...

10.8.11

Today I decided to refresh my wardrobe while simultaneously making a collection bag for Oxfam, as ya do. While I was sifting through all my old fashion faux pas', I found a few pieces that I just couldn't sacrifice without an attempt to recycle, and since fashion DIY is all the rage these days, I grabbed my sewing box - buttons, threads, and trimmings, and had a go at saving this old Isabel Marant woolen jumper.

Took me under an hour, or an episode of Criminal Minds, to finish it and I'm happy to say this is a jumper I'd be proud to wear now! The buttons are all different extras from past clothing and the elastic lace was from a charity shop.

Two tone lips

The newest entrance in the beauty world is that of two tone lips. It has created quite a mixed reaction but we are massive fans!

It works well with similar colours as well as opposite colours of the spectrum for a bolder, braver look. Here are some examples that we tried out...

Clockwise from left:

  1. Top colour - Revlon - 002 Pink Pout.  Bottom Colour - Chanel  lipgloss - 38 Electric.

  2. Top colour - Vintage Avon - Aztec Gold. Bottom Colour - M.A.C - Russian Red.

  3. Top colour  and Bottom colour - Eye shadow placed on Vaseline.

  4. Top colour - Natural Collection concealer in Medium. Bottom Colour - Revlon - 002 Pink Pout.

What do you think about the results?

Fancy going two toned?

This is a new trend and may take some getting used to but we say get brave and give it a go!!

Candy cane nails

9.8.11
Today I decided to swap leopard print nails for something a little more sweet - Candy cane style. It took me about half an hour but stick the TV on and time goes fast, plus its definitely worth the work.

I applied Rimmel Lycra Pro in 'Hot Gossip' as the base and used an old eye liner brush to do the fine white lines on top with a nail tip whitener.

Very festive, don't you think? Unfortunately it's the middle of summer so it doesn't quite fit the season, but hey, good practice for the coming winter months!
