Little bit o'nail art...

30.11.11
Finally my nail art pens have arrived!
(the other half of januarysublime received hers a while back but mine only arrived a couple of days ago - long delivery time from Hong Kong!)

Anyway, in a house of 6 girls including me, you can imagine the excitement which filled the sitting room as I tore the package open to reveal these beauties.
Initially we were a little dumbfounded at the never-ending choice but eventually we found our feet and got a little creative...

"It's a carnival..."

I couldn't choose between stripes and spots so went for a combination of both on my thumb nail and alternate on the others. Quite the carnival look we concluded!

Ladybird, Ladybird...

Now for the crème de la crème!
Are these not the cutest things in the world?
The two Alice's in my house decided to go matching so it's like we have an infestation.
As big fans of animal inspired nails I'm gonna get to work on some tonight. The choices are endless.

What do you think?
Any of you purchased nail art pens recently? If not, you definitely should, they will revolutionise your LIFE!

It's all about Chelsea...

27.11.11
With Made in Chelsea having drawn to a dramatic end - gotta love a bit of drama, we can't wait for the Christmas episode - we figured we needed some new Chelsea related thing in our lives and what better a replacement than bang on trend Chelsea Boots!

They seem to be everywhere at the moment and we are not complaining.
These gorgeous boots can be worn with skirts, shorts, dresses and jeans, aka, anything in your wardrobe!
We think they look super cute with a little sock showing over the top too as it adds a quirky, feminine touch to the chic boot.

For this time of year they are perfect as let's be honest, who wants to whip out the heavy duty snow boots quite yet?

1. Topshop - £65.00
2. Office - £30 down from £85
3. Topshop - £36.00
4. Topshop - £36.00
5. River Island - £40.00
6. River Island - £40.00
7. Dorothy Perkins - £28.00
8. New Look - £59.99
9. Topshop - £75.00

Some of the boots, 3 and 4 for example are a statement in themselves so would provide a boost to any plain outfit. We honestly can't praise these boots enough! They are comfy, gorgeous and come in such an array of shapes, colours, materials and heel sizes there is bound to be one that you like.

If you happen to be graced with slightly thicker ankles, don't be frightened away from ankle boots like these. You just need to find some that are not straight across the ankle as they will be less flattering. Boots with a gentle dip in the side wont cut off your legs and so will be more slimming, the shape of 9 is good for this!

The heeled variety are also gorgeous:

Topshop - £75.00
Topshop - £80.00
Peacocks - £15.00
Bertie - £110.00

So whether it be day or night these beautiful boots can be worn, adding a chic touch to any outfit you choose.

What's not to like?!

Do you have a favourite pair? The Topshop velvet ones get nicer every time I see them so may have to purchase the beauties in time for the festive party season...

Knitted headbands...

20.11.11
As massive fans of knitting at januarysublime, it is no surprise that these snug hair accessories appealed to us!
With the weather ever looming it is definitely time to be wrapping up warm and when in H&M the other day, I came across one of these headbands and tried it on, kind of as a joke, but fell in love and ended up buying it for only £3.99
They are like earmuffs but easier to wear, and provide instant warmth!

There are loads of variations out there, some fur, some knitted and some decorated with jewels and feathers:

1. Accessorize - £12.00
2. Accessorize - £12.00
3. River Island - £8.00
4. Dorothy Perkins -£5.60

5. Topshop - £12.00
6. Fat Face - £12.50

7. H&M - £2.99
8. River Island -£16.00
9. River Island - £8.00

We are big fans of the ones with bows on them and the little panda one is pretty cute.

These celebs seem to be fans as well!

Ashley Olsen, Whitney Port, Lindsay Lohan.

What do you think about these headbands?
We are thinking of knitting some of these ourselves and will let you know how it goes!

Nail art, nail art, nail art....

Well well well you lucky readers! Today's nail art post involves not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR different nail art styles!! I know right.

As you know, new nail art pens = no time for work anymore but on the plus side lots of pretty finger tips, it's a hard life...so here are a few of my recent designs.

1. Lilac bow nails
2. and again...
3. Kit for making them
4. Pink petal nails
5. Pale blue polka dot nails
6. Black cat nails (fancy dress)

Considering dropping out of uni and pursuing a life of nail painting instead, since I do more research into nail art than Psychology at the moment.

What do you think?

DIY: From Sock to Collar...

15.11.11
Ok, so we may have gone a little collar crazy in the last few posts, but since we started experimenting with them we just can't stop!

This is a little DIY post on how to make a little cotton collar from a plain black household sock!

You will need:

- A knee high/long sock (in colour of your choice)
- Needle & Thread
- Tiny Gold Chain
- Ribbon (or something)
- Scissors

All you really have to do is:

1. Cut the end off the sock so that it looks like one long rectangle.
2. Sew shut the two separate ends of the sock and maybe add some lace to the ends if you're feeling fancy.
3.  Attach a small ribbon and tie a knot at either end so that it can be adjusted for slipping on and off.
4. Sew the gold chain along the two ends to make it look pretty.

Simple as that! Here are some pictures to help you out...

Hopefully you should end up with something that looks a bit like this, or even better, in which case well done to you and send us a picture so we can see your fancy work!

The surprising thing is that it actually keeps your neck warm since the material is cotton, bonus! Think we might try a few more so stay tuned.

Cosy collars...

Fur and fleece collared coats are everywhere at the moment and we are in love!
With the chic edition to a winter essential, there will not be a cold neck in sight.
They may not be the most practical thing to wear with rain and snow, but hey, you'll be so toasty warm inside it wont even matter if you look a little wet-doggish... At least you'll be doing it with style!

Here are some beauties we have found:
The second coat gives a classy, chic look and the third coat looks so comfortable and casual. We are truly head over heels!

1. Urban Outfitters: £98.00
2. Asos: £95
3. Urban Outfitters: £125.00
4. Asos: £100

The collars are also popular on jackets and look amazing. The toasty addition to these jackets will make them warm enough to endure the winter weather.
The grunge glam look is achieved with perfection by the black Topshop leather jacket, shame it is the most expensive one!

6. Topshop £150.00
5. Rokit £85.00
7. River Island £85.00
8. Topshop £300.00

Celebs seem to be a fan of this irresistible trend too:

We think Kate Hudson's oversized, fur-collared blazer is completely gorgeous, there is no chance she is chilly inside there, even with bare legs!

What do you think about this trend?
What is also cool, is some of these collars are detachable so you can mix it up a bit by placing them on different coats, or take them off if you find yourself caught in a serious downpour!

Silver Lining...

14.11.11
Yet another bazaar craze we haven't mentioned yet is this current collar phenomenon, and aren't they just the cutest! From the lady-like pearly types, to the rugged gothic styles, they're literally all over the place and just like all these other weird and wonderful 2011 trends, they're growing on us...

Here's a little collection of collars we love...

In the spirit of this whole neat collar, button up look I decided to put some old scraps of jewellery to good use and add a bit of glam to an old black shirt. Though I'm still getting used to doing my top button up after spending years refusing to do this at school. The things we do for fashion!
Anyway, with these metal silver straps from lord knows what...

And this old black Primark shirt...

I ended up with this...

Not sure what I think of it but will be taking it for a test drive sometime soon to see what everyone else has to say. Might even add in a little jewel bow tie!

What does everyone else think about collars in general? They seem to be a marmite trend from what I've heard.

Reinvent those wedges!

13.11.11
A while back I bought these wedges in New Look for only £5 in the sale!

Sadly, since wearing heels with ankle straps, we find it hard to walk in ones without...
So, I figured I would go about some DIY and make these beauties wearable! Last year, I managed to get my hands on a leather hole puncher, which I swear is one of the best things in the world. It punches straight through fabric in a neat hole so I've been able to wear belts without horrid scissor-made holes in!

Anyway, this was step one of the wedge reinvention, as you can see in the photo above, I punched a hole on either side of the shoe so I can place a strap inside.
Like this:

Sadly, I only have laces at the moment to use as a strap, but imagine these with ribbon, beaaautiful!
There is so much freedom in the style because you can literally place any colour you fancy in there.
You can also wear the strap in millions of ways, personally we are fans of the straight forward wrap around the ankle, but the possibilities are endless...

After this, we decided to style these beauties up a little more, with a golden touch Midas would be proud of!

Right around the heel line of the shoe, we applied some fabric glitter glue, in addition to this we added some detail to the back of the wedge:

We couldn't decide which we preferred out of the sequins or the beads, which do you prefer?
The golden hint could be greatly enhanced with some gold ribbon as the ankle strap. We are going to buy some different colours and try them out and achieve some different looks.

It just goes to show how easy it really is to reinvent an old pair of your favourite shoes!
Any of you tempted to give this a go?

Movember Nails - Tashtastic!

12.11.11
We're now half way through November nearly, and the facial hair on our fellow fellas is getting lengthy. Unfortunately for us girls, we can't participate in this fun way of supporting testicular cancer (or at least we're not willing to put a hold on the upper lip bleaching) so we thought we'd put our own spin on the concept with what we know best...

Nail Art!

So, without further a do, let us present to you, a set of tashtastic Movember nails...

All you need to do for the nails is paint a pale pink base coat, sketch on the moustaches in different styles (the thumb is meant to be a chinese goatee but, as my boyfriend put it, looks more like an 'off' button), then paint the tips white.

As you can see, the Nail Art pens finally arrived after 3 long weeks (shipping from Hong Kong) but were definitely worth the wait, and for only £6.50! So very, very happy! There will be a frenzy of posts involving these artistic beauties.
Any ideas of what to do next?

Home-made rings and things...

11.11.11
It's friday, friday! And we've got a gem of a post for you today! (Get it?) It's been a long week filled with impulsive buys, not something we're proud of but it happens...

So, this week I took a spontaneous trip to New Look after receiving a Love2Shop Voucher from a psychology experiment (win) and decided it's about time I did get a 'New Look'. This came in the form of a new pair of chelsea boots from the kids department, since I'm size 5 and they actually have nicer/cheaper boots there, two necklaces, and a ring. When I got to the till, I spotted some little plastic bags labelled "Broken and tangled jewellery - £4". Never one to turn down a challenge, I added it to the basket and am very glad I did...

After prancing around in my new boots etc, I investigated this little bag of mystery and, as the saying goes, "one mans trash is another mans treasure" (Carrie Bradshaw knows best). Not only did I unearth four perfectly healthy necklaces, and a pair of feather earrings, but there were several adorable beads and gems hidden in there. Since I fancy myself as a bit of a DIY fashionista, I took a shot at making a few pieces myself.

Here are a few photos of all my new and wonderful things...

A whole lotta pictures there! What do you think of all the home-made rings etc? All you need are a few pretty gems or beads, some gold bands, and superglue. Do beware of the glue, it can get you in quite a fix (bad joke) but really, I got myself into a sticky situation (and again) with all the bits and pieces. Definitely recommend trying it though, as I'm very happy with my new rings and intend to make many more when I have the time!
